You Don’t Know Me
When I found out that one of my all-time favorite acoustic bassists, Kevin Kehrberg, was going to be in Raleigh for the 2019 IBMA’s World Of Music event I quickly called him and asked if he’d be interested in doing a quick recording session while he was down here. He agreed and a few weeks later this collection of songs was released. The arrangements are guitar and bass, both soloing and rhythming, with vocals. The tones captured by David Arnold were beyond my hopes. You can hear every tick of the bass as if you were standing right beside Kevin. Even if you hate my music, it’s worth it just to hear how a true engineer mics a bass…and, of course, the amazing bass playing that Kevin does on every single song.
In 2019, I became enamored with Ray Charles almost to the point of obsession (I still am). Most of these songs were chosen with Ray’s music and perceived attitude in mind, though that might not be at all obvious from listening. It was a great pleasure to spend the day at Rodney Eden’s “Stump Sound” recording studio, a bit northeast of Raleigh.
